Like clockwork when the San Jose Sharks training camp opens, a very familiar face reappears. Tom “Woody” Woodcock, the Sharks original trainer, annually returns from New England to lend a helping hand.

When Kelley Haskins came from Cape Cod to teach at Oakland Tech High School, everyone told her she couldn't bring hockey out  West. Now, she has a thriving program at Oakland Ice and the San Jose Sharks are proud to be a part of it. Pics |

Two quick second period goals by Brad Lukowich and Patrick Marleau proved to be the difference, as the Sharks won their final preseason game, 3-1 over the Los Angeles Kings Sunday night from Salt Lake City, Utah.

The 2008-09 NHL regular season opened Saturday when the Ottawa Senators and Pittsburgh Penguins met in Stockholm, Sweden and the New York Rangers took on the Tampa Bay Lightning in Prague, Czech Republic.

If points are the primary criterion, Joe Thornton is the leader with 648 (92.6 per season), seven more than Jaromir Jagr. Ottawa's Daniel Alfredsson is a distant third
at 578, followed by Colorado's Joe Sakic (569) and Iginla (566).

To celebrate the start of the 2008-09 season, the National Hockey League (NHL) and the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) will host their annual Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Month in October.

The Sharks have had a member of their rookie tournament team make the NHL roster every year. That gives hope to all the prospects still in camp, such as defenseman Mike Moore (pictured) who had a goal against Anaheim on Friday.

The Sharks made some more cuts to their training camp list by sending Thomas Greiss, Tom Cavanagh , Jason Demers, Jamie McGinn, Michael Wilson and Steven Zalewski to Worcester (AHL), leaving 31 players remaining in camp.

On Sept. 27, to the excitement of kids, coaches and spectators alike, the Sharks and Parks Street Hockey Tournament returned to the parking lots of HP Pavilion. More than 200 kids between the ages of 7-15 participated in the event. Extras: Pics |
